Bitmaps
Origin: Lat. mappa
Images digitally encoded in the .bmp format. In this mode, an image is represented by a rectangular array of pixels; each pixel contains information about the color in which the pixel will be displayed. “Bitmap” also describes an array of boolean values that stores 8 array elements to the byte. In memory management and databases, bitmaps are also used to show if an allocation unit is free or used.
