Business portfolio models
Origin: Lat. negotĭum, fr. portefeuille, it. modello
A model that includes both high and low risk projects. Portfolios of such projects are assembled to minimize overall risks, on the assumption that some high risk projects will fail, but others will “pay off” handsomely. In business this term may mean a collection of subsidiary businesses, R&D projects, or ventures, assembled to spread the risk caused by uncertainty.
