Determinism
Origin: Lat. determinare
Philosophical proposition that views future developments as set or constrained by pre-existing structures and forces; its principal consequence is that free will becomes an illusion. Often applied to technical systems. Stands in opposition to empowerment and the operation of human choice and decision-making.
