Fitting curve

A curve that best matches a given series of data points and conforms to other possible other limits. “Best match” or “best fit” can be defined mathematically by choosing the equation for a curve from a number of possible curves, and observing the sum of the root mean squares of the errors between the curves and the points; the curve with the least sum is the best match. Many commercial versions of software to perform curve fitting are available.
