Historic analogy
Origin: Lat. historĭcus analogĭa, gr. ἀναλογία
Using past events to create similar mental images of an updated potential future; for example, an analogy may be made between the introduction of two technologies separated in time: the rate of acceptance of a new version of an iPod may be taken as a first approximation of the rate which will be experienced by a later version. This is forecasting by historic analogy.
