A chaotic trajectory within the Lorenz dynamic model. Ed N. Lorenz, a meteorologist, produced a model of convection in the Earth's atmosphere, defined by three coupled non-linear differential equations. For certain constants (the Prandtl number and the Rayleigh number), the system becomes chaotic: that is, it is non-static, and non-cyclic. It never repeats itself and is very sensitive to initial conditions: an example of deterministic chaos. The equations lead to the following image of the attractor.
