Nanobot
Origin: Lat. nanus
(Or nanorobotics) A term that encompasses robots at nanometer scale (10 meters). The term includes the designing and building of such machines. While nanoscale devices such as microscopic tweezers have been demonstrated, as yet (2012) no nanoscale robots exist. A promising approach to building such small scale machines is through the use of biologic systems based on bacteria such as the bacterium Escherichia coli. This approach uses a flagellum for propulsion. Electromagnetic fields can also be considered for control and propulsion.
