Optimism and pessimism
Origin: Lat. optĭmus, pessĭmus
Two opposing attitudes that are frequently identified with the future. They are useful as starting points for gathering information, but given that both can be equally effective to motivate or inhibit answers, they have ambiguous implications when doing research.
