Stewardship ethics

The value-based notion that people are not on the Earth to 'use it up' or destroy it but, rather, to care for and maintain it. Contrasts with prevailing notions of use, extraction and exploitation. Increasingly promoted by ego environmentalists and others, a stewardship ethic is thought to be one of the possible mainstays of a future social order which pursues sustainability.
