Time capsule
Origin: Lat. tempus, capsŭla
A cache of goods and/or information packaged with the intent of showing some future generation selected aspects of our current time. Time capsules sometimes used in dedications of buildings or other facilities, or in celebrations. Sometimes nature itself delivers a time capsule through a catastrophe such as the eruption of Vesuvius delivering the time capsule of Pompeii.
