Computational biology

Origin: Gr. βιολόγος, Lat. computatĭo, -ōnis

An interdisciplinary field that applies the techniques of computer science, applied mathematics, and statistics to address biological problems and conduct biological research. It develops mathematical models and computational simulation techniques for biological processes. As a result, it can conduct scientific research without a laboratory and living organisms. The Journal of Computational Biology and PLOS Computational Biology are key sources of research in this field.
