Data mining

Also known as Knowledge-Discovery in Databases (KDD), it refers to the process of searching large volumes of data to extract useful but previously unknown information from any form of data, although common usage emphasizes numerical data analyses. Results must be properly interpreted to be useful. When the data collected involves individual people, questions concerning privacy, legality, and ethics may arise.
