Entropy
Origin: Gr. ἐντροπία
The amount of disorder or randomness present in any system. Concept in thermodynamics, statistical mechanics and information theory. The concepts of information and entropy have deep links with one another, although it took many years for the development of the theories of statistical mechanics and information theory to make this apparent. Informally, entropy can be said to be a measure of randomness or disorder. Its exact definition is reliant upon the phenomenon being studied, thermodynamic entropy for thermodynamic systems, information entropy for a string of letters etc. In thermodynamics, a chaos measure (the unpredictable movement) of non-available particles and energy, in a physical system of many components. In other contexts, the term is used to describe the degree of randomness and the tendency to disorder of the system. Thermodynamic concept to designate the magnitude of a physical state that points up the irreversibility physical processes grade, especially those of the energy changes.
