Paradigm shift
Origin: Lat. paradigma, Gr. παράδειγμα, Lat. cambium
The process by which widely held paradigms are replaced with new paradigms. Most new ideas are rejected at first because they come in conflict with old ideas that are working well enough. Only when old ideas fail in accuracy and their ability to predict outcomes, is a field ripe for new paradigms.
