Probability (likelihood)
Origin: Lat. probabilĭtas, -ātis
The likelihood or chance that something will occur. Mathematically, the ratio of the number of times an event will occur divided by the number of times it could feasibly occur. If an event has a 50% probability of occurrence, it will occur in half of the futures that contain it. The higher the probability of an event, the more certain. This topic is dealt with quantitatively in probability theory and is used extensively in estimating risk of alternative policies.
Spanish: Probabilidad
