Impact wheel

A very common method among futurists to organize a brainstorm about the future. Jerome C. Glenn invented it in 1971. The organization of the ideas takes the form of a wheel, where the name of a trend or event is written in the middle of a piece of paper, then, for each impact it has, a small spoke is drawn wheel-like from the center, with the impact name at the end of the spoke. The process is then repeated for each impact, for as long as is useful, forming a structure of concentric rings. The futures wheel therefore depicts an expanding ring of consequences. Futures wheels are very useful for drawing out peoples' ideas and views. This method is used to think about the consequences of current trends, create alternative scenarios, display other futures research, develop multi-concepts, and nurture a futures-conscious perspective.
