Futures research
Origin: Lat. futūrus, investigatĭo, -ōnis
The systematic exploration of future possibilities - either possible or desired - and the identification and testing of policies that may influence those futures. It helps to connect diverse information to: Identify trends and patterns, clarify potential impacts, seek alternatives, and to assess strategies to counter threats and develop more desirable futures. It provides clarity and utility for decision makers who must take global change into account in planning, and need important insights into global challenges and possible actions.
