Rupture

Important and brutal change, which has a considerable impact on the evolution of one or several variables or also of a system. It is a discontinuity —sometimes progressive, but almost always abrupt— whose appearance is not the result of a deliberate choice of the actors involved. Its importance lies in these three characteristics: it is irreversible, surprising and impressive.
